Hawaii law tests `Regulatory Takings' doctrine
Article Abstract:
The Hawaii legislators were trying to keep the price of gasoline down in 1997, when they capped the amount of rent a major oil company could charge an independent service-station operator. However, Chevron U.S.A. challenged the law in federal court, claiming that it amounted to an unconstitutional taking of property without the payment of just compensation.

A Connecticut Supreme Court, in February 2002 gave a decision restraining the Bridgeport from acquiring waterfront land from Pequonnock Yatch Club, giving a boost to property-owners. In the New London case, the city has deposited about $1.6 million with the Supreme Court as payment for properties to land-owners if the home-owners challenge fails.
